Who can be a volunteer?

Anybody can. We all have something that we can contribute. If you are a man or a woman, of any age, if you are part-time employed, fully employed, self-employed, seeking work, a student or retired there will be some voluntary work that you can do. Staff at Volunteer Whanganui can assist you to find something that will fit in with your existing commitments.

Why volunteer?

It's fun! It benefits our community. It can be a way of learning new skills or making use of your existing ones. It can be a way to meet people, or to help someone else. It can be an opportunity to make a difference, or show that you care. It can be a way of gaining work experience. It can be a way of giving something back to your community.

What kind of work can you do?

Our jobs vary from month to month but positions that we have advertised recently have included art gallery attendants, after school care-givers, befrienders, education centre guides, ESOL tutors, gardeners, interviewers, literacy tutors, media and publicity people, minute secretaries, painter and decorators, reading tutors, teacher aides, and youth development workers.
