About us
Volunteer Whanganui is a charitable trust that first opened its doors on the 1st of September 2001,We are governed by a Trust Board ( the members of which donate their time freely). Currently we are made up of a Manager and 3 Volunteer Administrators
Everyday hundreds of volunteers are working in the Whanganui community. We aim to promote and recognise the contribution that volunteers make to our community.
We are a member of Volunteering New Zealand, a national body representing volunteer centres and the national bodies of organisations, which involve volunteers. Volunteering New Zealand is strongly committed to volunteering. see Links
We have been established thanks to the generosity of the Department of Internal Affairs, and continue to operate thanks to D.I.A. and other organisations such as J.B.S.Dudding,T.G.Macarthy,Pub Charity, C.O.G.S., NZ Post, and Perry Foundation.
Volunteers

We aim to support volunteers by assisting them to find voluntary work, which, they would like to do, in not-for-profit organisations. Volunteers may be new to volunteering, or looking for something new or different to do. We can also advocate on behalf of volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer see Volunteer Now.
Agencies
We can assist agencies to find volunteers by referring volunteers to them. We aim to put suitable volunteers in touch with the agency. We undertake initial screening of volunteers only. The final decision of whether to involve a volunteer or not is the decision of the agency. If you are an agency interested in using our referral service then see Services.
Professional Development Training Workshops
We provide professional development training workshops for volunteers, volunteer coordinators and managers. If you are interested in taking part in these workshops see Services. and Training.
Volunteer Coordinators and Managers Network Meeting
This provides an opportunity for managers and coordinators of volunteers in registered agencies to get together monthly. For more information see Services.
Information and Consultancy Service
We offer an information and consultancy service to help agencies to support their volunteers. We are establishing a library of resources on volunteering. If you have a query about volunteering or would like to use our consultancy service or library then see Services.
